Discover the superior carrier "Immobead-150" for covalent enzyme binding. This bead is a newly developed macroporous acrylic polymer that is suitable for the covalent immobilization of a variety of enzymes via epoxide groups. The particle size in the range from 150 to 300 micrometer allows for exceptionally good handling. Now that Eupergit C is discontinued by Evonik the new standard is set by Immobead-150.

For applications requiring a larger particle size the Immobead-350 is available with average diameters ranging from 350 to 700 micrometer.

Ionic binding:

Binding via anionic or cationic interaction has been a very common method to immobilize enzymes and to purify proteins. On macroporous beads functionalized with either carboxylic or quartenairy ammonium groups enzymes display high activity and high protein loading because of the wide pores and the high internal volume.

Absorbtion:

Absorption of enzyme to a polymeric matrix of polypropylene yields one of the most simple and cost effective formulations available. On this inert and unmodified carrier CalB and Lipolase are available as Immozyme T1. Ideal for a wide variety of non-aqueous modifications such as esterifications and transesterifications.

An immobilized enzyme is an enzyme which is attached to an inert, insoluble material. In 1916, Nelson and Griffin discovered that invertase exhibited the same activity when absorbed on a solid (charcoal or aluminium hydroxide) at the bottom of the reaction vessel as when uniformly distributed throughout the solution. This discovery was the first of various enzyme immobilization techniques currently available. It allows enzymes to be held in place throughout the reaction, following which they are easily separated from the products and may be reused. With immobilized enzymes biocatalytic reactions can be carried out under a much wider range of conditions than with unformulated enzyme. Besides adsorption, different covalent methods of enzyme immobilization were developed.
